I’ve never breastfed my baby in public before a few days ago. Though I’ve publicly posted about our breastfeeding relationship in my posts here, with all of the obstacles we faced I never felt comfortable enough to feed her “out in the open”. The use of the nipple shield always prevented me from doing so. I had two different types of nursing covers and, of course there are blankets, but if you’ve ever had to put on a nipple shield you know they fall off very easily. I was never able to figure out how to hold my baby, apply a nipple shield, and not have a cover knock it off before my daughter latched.
I have now successfully breastfed in public and I’m totally excited about it! Unfortunately, it wasn’t because we were able to stop using the nipple shield BUT this amazing new nursing cover called the Booby Trapper gives me all the room I need to be able to see my breast as I put on the nipple shield and the fabric stays far enough out that it doesn’t push it off. I just love the design of this product!
The Booby Trapper has a very unique dual-rim design which keeps the fabric from clinging to your skin. Many nursing covers have a rim at the neck which allows you to see down but the fabric still falls in all the wrong places and lays on the baby. Having the second rim a few inches down solves several problems and allows for better airflow, more eye contact AND for those of us who need it the extra room to put and keep on a nipple shield.
The nursing cover is larger than others but very easily folds down to fit in to a diaper bag or purse. The website provides an instructional video which shows just how easy it is to properly fold The Booby Trapper to ensure that the rims stay rounded to prevent creasing and bending.
They are made of 100% cotton or organic cotton and feature a variety of patterns so you will surely find one to fit you and your baby’s style. It is best to hand wash and hang dry The Booby Trapper to protect the rims.
I had the opportunity to review a lovely black and white floral print known as “Sophistication”. It is a very pretty design and not too busy so that it would draw a lot of attention while out in public. The cover is longer and wider than other nursing covers which allows for better coverage. Again, another plus for this mama since it makes me feel less anxious to know I’m fully covered from the sides and at my waist as well. My baby did not have any issues with being covered because she could see my face and there was good ventilation.
I really think The Booby Trapper is a great product with a fabulous design. They are priced at $48CAD which is a little over $44 USD. The Booby Trapper can be purchased online and in select small boutiques in the US & CAN which you can locate on their website. They have also expanded to Europe and Australia which have their own websites. They have a very diverse selection of prints to choose from right now and some neutral solids so there is sure to be something that catches your eye. I definitely see The Booby Trapper becoming a must have nursing cover for breastfeeding moms!
