The wooden toys from Mama May i are top of line in terms of craftsmanship and I was very happy with them upon first opening the package. There are no worries of any chemical off-gassing as the toys are colored with non-toxic watercolors and finished with a beeswax and jojoba oil seal. The wood has been sanded and smoothed to a safe finish for little hands.
The Colored Cups and Balls Playset can be used in so many different ways. There are ample opportunities for learning in terms of color matching, counting, hand-eye coordination and even volume as far as how many balls can fit in each cup. Upon first being presented with the set my 20 month old daughter really loved placing each of the balls in to a cup with her hands and then dumping them back in to the bowl. Then she tried out the scoop to place the balls inside the cups. She especially like counting as she placed each ball in to a cup and when she was finished she would clap and shout “YAY!”. It is so wonderful to see her excited about an activity like this and as we continue to work on learning colors and matching this will be one of the go-to toys that I reach for.
Aside from the learning aspects the Colored Cups and Balls Playset makes a great imagination play toy as well. It can be used as part of kitchen play like a snack or tea set, a stacking toy, and when not in use makes for a gorgeous decoration on a shelf with the vibrant rainbow colors.
The Colored Cups and Balls Playset is available on the Mama May i website for $24 for the set and includes a muslin bag for easy storage. There is a fantastic selection of handmade learning toys from babies to big kids and I’ve definitely got my eye on a few more items that I would love to have to help make learning fun and creative for my children.
