Smoothies are one of my favorite ways to start the day because they are quick and easy. Two important ingredients that I always add to my smoothies are a healthy fat and protein. I notice a big difference in my hunger level when I don’t have protein and fat at breakfast and then I find myself snacking and making poor food choices before lunch.
My healthy fat of choice is usually coconut oil but I also change it up by adding MCT oil. I’ll also add peanut butter to a lot of my smoothies which is high in protein and fat but I use it more for taste. For my protein powders I prefer minimal ingredients and minimal processing.
I’ve been enjoying the Oriya Organics Protein Powder as part of my breakfast smoothies. I typically use chocolate flavored protein powders but these can contain added sugars or sweeteners. What is amazing about the Oriya Organics 100% Plant Protein is that it only contains 5 ingredients: organic sprouted rice protein, organic hemp seed protein, organic sprouted chia seeds, organic spirulina and organic chlorella. This powder packs 18g of protein per scoop and is 100% organic, raw, vegan and non-GMO certified. It is the perfect healthy addition to your favorite breakfast smoothie.
If you are looking for an easy way to increase your greens then Oriya Organics 100% Greens powder is the ticket. Like the protein powder it is 100% organic, raw, vegan and non-GMO certified, and contains only 4 ingredients: organic spirulina, organic chlorella, organic wheat grass and organic barley grass. It is a nutritionally dense powder and has a strong taste. I prefer adding my greens powder to citrus fruit smoothies but there are some amazing recipes on the Oriya Organics website that incorporate the greens powder in to foods like guacamole (my favorite! I can’t wait to try adding some the next time I make guac).
My current smoothie favorite is Raw Cacao, Peanut Butter & Banana. It’s a spin off of the old chocolate protein powders I’ve used and am replacing with raw cacao. Raw cacao is the healthiest form of chocolate you can have! I do not add any additional sweeteners to my smoothie besides the banana and I love how this smoothie tastes. It really sets the tone for my day and makes me feel like I started off with a great meal choice to motivate me to continue making good choices throughout the day.
