We recently took another long road trip down South, but this time doubled our distance going all the way to Florida. With 2 toddlers in tow we had to be sure to keep everyone happy and occupied during the 17ish hours of driving. We employed a bunch of the tips from our last road trip, and they worked great, but we needed some fresh material.
Let’s be honest that most children’s songs get annoying pretty quickly. My toddlers love to hear the same songs over and over and on a very long road trip I can only take hearing “The Wheels on the Bus” sung by other small children a handful of times. So, having a variety of family friendly tunes plus music that won’t drive you insane is an absolute must for road tripping with toddlers.

Here are some of the CDs that we really enjoyed listening to on our long drive:
“LA LA LA” by Priscilla Ahn was hands down my favorite family friend CD. Ahn’s voice is so beautiful and her music is fun and catchy for little ones. When I first put the CD on I kept thinking that I knew this artist’s voice but I know I didn’t have any of her music downloaded before. Sure enough Priscilla Ahn has been featured on Grey’s Anatomy and she just has a voice that you remember. I’m now a huge fan and love that there are some cutesy songs that my kids like to listen to as well.
I’m not typically a huge country music fan but The Okee Dokee Brothers have a really great children’s album. “Saddle Up” has some great songs with positive messages and fun themes. It was the perfect change up to nursery rhyme CDs or any other song that your toddler might want to listen to 500 times on repeat. You can stream the whole CD for free if you have an Amazon Prime membership (Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial).
I absolutely guarantee you are already familiar with Raffi, even if you don’t know it. Remember “Baby Beluga”?? Yep, thats Raffi! This “Best of Raffi” CD is loaded with other cute and catchy tunes just like it. My three year old really enjoys these songs and how silly they are. This is definitely a CD that your kids will enjoy listening to.
I recently shared how I’ve been incorporating Mindfulness in to my daily routine. I think it is a great practice for children as well since they are learning to deal with all of the different emotions that they experience. My three year old has responded well to some of the songs from the Daniel Tiger show so I knew that this CD would be right up her alley. Even young toddlers can learn to take a deep breath to help them relax when they are stressed about something. I love that Kira Wiley’s gentle voice in “Mindful Moments for Kids” helps give me more parenting tools to help my toddlers learn Mindfulness in a way that is fun for them. This particular CD was great while we made an overnight stop at a hotel half way through our road trip. The kids were pretty antsy from being in the car and doing some of these Yoga and breathing exercises were a great way to unwind.

Road trip music is crucial! I like that you have a variety and here and it’s not cheesy kid music!
We definitely enjoyed the songs. And Priscilla Ahn has such an amazing voice!
We used to make sure the van was stocked with age-appropriate music for trips also! Now we can’t pry them away from their headphones…
Haha! When my toddlers are incessantly talking I try to remind myself that one day they will be ignoring me with headphones on.
We have our favorite too that we make sure to bring along for road trips. I had never heard of the Okee Dokee Brothers but it’s cool that they have a child’s country music album. I’ll be sure to listen.
Oh yes if you’ve got little country music fans then they will surely love these songs!
Love that you added Raffi to your list, I haven’t heard him in years!
When we go on long road trips we usually listen to an audio book.
The whole family loves them and it makes the trip go by so quickly.
An audio book is a great idea! I’ll have to look in to that for our next trip.
Great picks! We are heading out for a road trip tomorrow and can never agree on car music with the kids!
Have a safe and wonderful trip!
Love the variety! Kids tunes that are adult friendly in the car are crucial!!
It’s awesome that you found some good music to listen to for the trip! I think these CDs sound great.
Raffi is one of our all time favorites, it reminds me so much of my kids when they were young. Road trip music is CRITICAL! Love your list!
It is important that the whole family enjoy the music if riding together. If not then the trip becomes a long one.
I am lucky that I have a teen so he brings his own music. That said i love having music we can all enjoy while riding.
Thanks so much for including my CD here! Great company to be in! All the best, Kira
We love music when driving….we play nursery songs…
